On the 20th of May 2012, at 02:0.3:53 (UTC), (04:03:53 Italian time), Emilia region (Northern Italy) was struck by a Magnitude, ML 5.9 (INGV), Mw 6.0 (USGS) earthquake, (lat 44.89, long 11.23, depth 6.3 km). The mainshock was preceded by a 4.1 event on the 19th of May and followed by relevant aftershocks. (Report 1, Dolce et al, 2012) The seismic sequence covered a large area between the provinces of Modena, Ferrara, Rovigo and Mantova. The number of daily earthquakes registered between the 16th of May and the 1st of June is shown in Figure 1.
