“The Government of Mexico (GoM) continues to coordinate a response to the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck central Mexico on September 19, resulting in at least 325 deaths, injuring more than 4,800 people, and damaging more than 41,700 buildings in Mexico, Morelos, and Puebla states. The majority of casualties occurred in the capital of Mexico City, where GoM officials have recorded 186 earthquake-related deaths”. (Source: USAID) “Government has activated the PLAN MX, which coordinates federal aid efforts for the population through the National Emergency Committee. Classes and government offices have been suspended until further notice in Mexico City, Puebla and Morelos, as of September 20” (Source: UNICEF).

Ji Su is a structural/risk analyst with Arup’s Advanced Technology + Research team and is based in San Francisco; Sahar is a Research Associate at the Hazards and Vulnerability Research Institute (HVRI) at the University of South Carolina with backgrounds in public policy and structural engineering.
