Preliminary Motion Characteristics

January 30, 2018

The primary shock of the November 13 event occured 53-km NNE of Amberely at 11:02:56 UTC (12:02 am local time) at a depth of 23-km. Local magnitude has been reported by GeoNet as M7.8.  The closest free-field station (Ward) recorded a peak ground acceleration of 1.2g  approximately 25-km from the epicentre.

A Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) map of the region can be found here: http://shakemap.geonet.org.nz/mapping/2016p858000.html
