On April 16, 2016, a M7.0 earthquake occurred near Kumamoto, Japan. This earthquake resulted in 70 fatalities, thousands of injuries, and various types of damage to more than 10,000 structures. There was also a wide range of damage to lifelines. New TCLEE members Alex Tang (M.EERI, 1985) and John Eidinger have now written a 280-page report on the performance of lifelines in this earthquake, including electric, gas, water, telecommunications, transportation and ports.
