Between the dates of July 4 and 5, 2019, the Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance Association (GEER) deployed a multi-disciplinary team comprised of various investigators to observe and document the significant geotechnical engineering impacts and lessons learned from this event. The GEER team collaborated closely with other engineering reconnaissance efforts including those led by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), the Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance Association (StEER), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), California Geological Survey (CGS), Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), various universities such as (UCLA, CSU Fullerton, Arizona State University, University of Nevada Reno, UC Irvine).
The GEER team also benefited greatly from coordination and partnerships with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials, and various municipal emergency response coordinators.
