Field Update from Coquimbo

February 1, 2018

By Rafael Enrique Aránguiz Muñoz.

September 2015, Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción.

Today I surveyed Coquimbo, I have some pictures of the tsunami damage. We measured up to 6m inundation height and an inundation length up to 600m inland. This impact could be comparable to the tsunami damage in Talchuano due to the 2010 Tsunami.

The coastal road was severely damage and the dike was removed due to the scour. It is also possible to see that the railway close to the shore was compeltely destroyed by the tsunami. I also attached a preliminary numerical simulation of the event.
