EERI Buildings Reconnaissance Briefing Webinar Recording

May 16, 2023

In the May 23, 2023 webinar, members of the EERI buildings reconnaissance team shared their findings on the performance of buildings. The EERI Buildings Team traveled more than 3200 kilometers through the earthquake-affected region of Turkey in mid-March 2023, conducting reconnaissance in İskenderun, Samandağı, Kırıkhan, Antakya, Adana, Osmaniye, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Adıyaman, Gölbaşı, Malatya, Hassa, İslahiye and Nurdağı. The team focused on understanding the overall structural performance of buildings, including correlation with peak ground intensity at nearby ground motion recording stations. The majority of the buildings were residential, but the team also documented and categorized the response of industrial facilities, commercial buildings, school buildings, and religious and historical structures. The building sample includes reinforced concrete, steel moment frame, precast concrete, and unreinforced masonry buildings. The team also recorded damage to nonstructural building components. In this webinar, members of the team will present their findings and respond to questions.
