Changi RHCC’S SPOT Report 10/18 for 7.5 magnitude earthquake 78 km N of Palu, Indonesia (CAA: 8 Oct 2018, 2300hrs)

The 7.5 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit Sulawesi on 28 Sep 2018 have caused widespread destruction.

According to Channel News Asia (CNA), the death toll has increased to 1,948, with 10,679 injured, 74,444 displaced and another 835 missing. The number is expected to increase as the search is still in progress.

According to Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), the number of displaced people have been reduced from 74,444 to 66,444, in 147 locations across the provinces, as the survivors of the earthquake and tsunami have started to return to their homes. In order to facilitate the people who were returning back, emergency schools would be set up using tents so that the affected children can return to the school. It was estimated that over 2,500 schools in Palu, Donggala and Sigi have been damaged in the disaster.
