Seismic Response of Public Buildings and Infrastructural Systems

In the Emilia Romagna Region, nine public buildings are monitored by the OSS (hospitals, infrastructures, schools), concentrated in the east and the Appennine, which is more active from a seismic point of view. Following the May 20, 2012 Emilia earthquake, two monitoring mobile systems have been installed on the Prefectures of Ferrara and Modena. Detailed information on […]

Some notes about seismotectonics

Figure 1. Comparison of focal mechanisms reported by other institutions (http://www.emsc-csem.org/Images/EVID/27/270/270116/270116.MT.jpg).     Figure 2 shows the cluster of aftershocks for the two events, the 20th and 29th of May 2012. A migration of seismicity towards west is clearly visible. The relative location of the two earthquakes and the distribution of Coulomb stress, suggest that the June […]

Shakemap Emilia-Romagna-Modena Earthquake May 29th 2012

This map was produced automatically using the data recorded by the seismic stations near the epicenter – (red triangles in Figure 1 – see also the archive for more maps http://shakemap.rm.ingv.it/shake/archive/2012.html ).   Figure 1. Shakemap (PGA) describing the shaking pattern produced by the May 29th event.

Seismological characteristics

The detailed information using in the regression can be seeing in the INGV website at the following link: http://ismd.mi.ingv.it/evento_35.php?var1=772691&path=120520020352 (link updated in 2018)   Figure 1. Epicenter (red star) and focal mechanism proposed by the INGV. The stations used to obating the mechanism are shown as red triangles.      Figure 2 shows the main event […]

Map of the ground deformation

A part of the studied area shows that a deformation up to 15 centimetres occurred. The map below (Figure 1) shows the distribution of ground deformation; more information is available here: Terremoto in Emilia Romagna: il sollevamento dell’area è arrivato a 15 centimetri (in Italian).        Figure 1.
