As the first earthquake engineer from the United States to do earthquake reconnaissance in Haiti, Fierro presented his personal account of the earthquake including and highlighted the damage caused to the built environment from an engineering perspective. This presentation was made on January 26, 2010 at a seminar jointly organized and hosted by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center, the UC Berkeley Department of Civil Engineering, SEMM, and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI).
